Favorite Books for Kids
My husband and I began reading to both of our children in utero and haven't stopped. We read to them daily. As they age, we pick books that can grow with them. We enjoy family trips to the library, using the Libby app and rewarding reading with a film based on the book. I studied children's literature as part of my major and truly enjoy a good kids' book. I could easily fill an entire website with my favorite children's books. I have been known to give and receive children's books as gifts to adults. I enjoy reading them just as much as my kids! But for this page, I have picked the books that I think help teach mindfulness to kids of all ages. If you have a book you think belongs on my list, please send me a message. I have provided links to the books when available.
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons: this list had to begin with Pete the Cat. I recommend any and all Pete the Cat books. Pete is mindful of his friends, family and a very calm and zen like character. In this book, he keeps losing buttons but he never cries. He keeps going along and singing his song. This is a wonderful lesson on living in the moment and being resilient.
Harry Potter series: This series is not only on here because it is my favorite set of books I have read, but because of the lessons it provides. Harry goes on a hero's journey that would make Joseph Campbell proud, ending with facing his own death to save others. It is a beautiful story, with such rich characters and each one provides a lesson.
